Compendium challenge week 9...

Posted by Picasa
Here is my entry for this week's challenge as posted at
StudioL3.
I had a few issues with the crackle paint and I have had
problems before. I love the idea of the crackle paints but
have to say that the product does not last long at all
before drying up completely.
I wanted to use the Picket Fence crackle but it was totally
solid with the brush stuck in the middle. I had to use the
white paint dabber and then the Rock Candy
Distress Crackle instead. Despite the issues, I do love
using the Rock Candy crackle and now have several
jars of that so I can use it on anything.

Have a look at this :

As you can see it is way passed the add water to it stage.
I found another 2 of my crackle paints the same so now
that makes 6 I have barely used and then had to throw
away. Am I the only one having this issue ? if so then
what is everyone else doing to keep their paints useable ?

Marlene, I love how this turned out! The white paint and Rock Candy look amazing on the skull and crossbones, and the background is fabulous with that "shattered" distress stamp. It's really cool!

You're definitely not the only one who's had issues with the paint drying up. I've learned to squirt a little water into mine after each use, and sometimes I just go through the entire stash and re-hydrate as needed. It's a great product, but not particularly low-maintenance!

I think your piece turned out wonderfully. Crackle can be challenging at it's best! You might want to call Ranger and see if they will help you. They were very good about replacing some defective product I had.

Love it Marlene! That skull looks great and matches that sentiment perfectly! Yeah, mine get kinda dry too, I've added water, they seem to be ok right now, but you have to keep on the watering, lol.

I love your challenge piece and it turned out great! I had issues also with the Distress Crackle and mine were brand new! However, I do like the effects of crackle!

I appreciate your frustration. One of mine was totally dried up and several others I had to add water and stir, stir and stir some more. Very annoying. I love what you have done here. Very cool!

Love the effect you've achieved with the skull and the background too!

I had the same problem, one of my jars had dried up completely. I did add water and stir and it's gone more gloopy now - don't yet know how it will work though.
